{"id":1528,"date":"2024-05-13T07:51:16","date_gmt":"2024-05-13T07:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bespoke.eu.applyflow.com\/architecture-salary-and-design-salary-insights-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-11-18T22:24:06","modified_gmt":"2024-11-18T22:24:06","slug":"architecture-salary-and-design-salary-insights-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bespokecareers.com\/articles\/architecture-salary-and-design-salary-insights-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Architecture Salary and Design Salary Insights 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our CEO and founder, Lindsay Urquhart, shares her thoughts on the architecture and design market for 2024, and what to expect as the year unfolds.<\/p>\n<h5>What can we expect from the year ahead?<\/h5>\n<p>The architecture and design market has always\u00a0been linked to economic health, population growth\u00a0and government spending, and now is no different.\u00a0There has been a slowing in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bespokecareers.com\/au\/contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australia<\/a>\u00a0in the last six\u00a0months, more so in Sydney than Melbourne. In the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bespokecareers.com\/us\/contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US<\/a>, there has also been a slight contraction, with\u00a0a tougher market in California and caution in New\u00a0York \u2013 only Texas has remained steady. In the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bespokecareers.com\/uk\/contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UK<\/a>,\u00a0the market has been resilient, somewhat hardened\u00a0to difficult times since Brexit, the pandemic, political\u00a0chaos and now a second war, and things are\u00a0now stabilising. But despite the mixed market,\u00a0every Bespoke location is reporting an optimistic\u00a0outlook for 2024, with many reporting frequent\u00a0understaffing in firms.\u00a0Taking it by sector, a less lucrative private market\u00a0means that many firms are relying on government\u00a0spending in health and education, which is\u00a0happening in Australia and the United States\u00a0especially. Some sectors never seem to fail, with\u00a0Australian firms still building multi-residential\u00a0apartments and the Australian workplace sector\u00a0looking healthy too thanks to a drive to move back\u00a0into the office.<\/p>\n<p>Uncertainty in the market has also meant firms\u00a0are keen to hire in specialist fields. This is evident\u00a0in London where there is a demand for architects\u00a0to work on Middle Eastern projects, in Brisbane\u00a0where companies are chasing sport and health\u00a0specialists, in New York where specialisation in\u00a0transportation, aviation or health is in demand, and\u00a0in Los Angeles, where lab and medical planners\u00a0are being highly sought after. Business support\u00a0staff, such as marketing and bid submissions are in\u00a0demand too across all locations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile hybrid work is still\u00a0happening, employers in many\u00a0locations are keen for people to\u00a0work more days in the office, or\u00a0return to the office full time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In terms of relocating staff, Melbourne firms\u00a0are interested to see how reciprocal work visas\u00a0between Australia and the UK will impact things\u00a0and are hoping that working holiday visas will\u00a0bring in more overseas candidates for short-term\u00a0contracts. Meanwhile, more architects and\u00a0designers than ever are relocating to Texas, mostly\u00a0from elsewhere in the US.\u00a0While hybrid work is still happening, employers in\u00a0many locations are keen for people to work more\u00a0days in the office, or return to the office full time. As\u00a0long as understaffing is a problem and demand for\u00a0new staff is high in every location, firms are having\u00a0to think about how to make themselves stand out.\u00a0In London, many firms are offering a range of\u00a0incentives with a particular focus on professional\u00a0development and flexibility, and in New York and\u00a0Texas, employers are having to streamline the\u00a0recruitment process to secure hires.\u00a0Bespoke has a unique insight into recruitment in\u00a0the architecture and design industry due to its\u00a0global network of offices, creating\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bespokecareers.com\/uk\/articles\/263\/working-patterns-in-interior-design-studios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">insights\u00a0<\/a>into the\u00a0health of the market, and into what employers and\u00a0employees are looking for.<\/p>\n<h5>&#8220;Keeping the application process streamlined is critical at the minute for firms to secure the best talent.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<p>We know that finding candidates is complicated \u2013\u00a0what a candidate wants or needs in a role may not\u00a0match what a firm is willing to offer. The growing\u00a0and receding of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bespokecareers.com\/uk\/articles\/253\/how-to-manage-the-live-work-culture-in-a-design-studio-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hybrid<\/a>\u00a0work is one example of\u00a0this push-pull, where many staff are still hoping\u00a0to negotiate days working from home, while\u00a0employers are increasingly wanting staff to make\u00a0the trip into the office. Other factors, such as part\u00a0time roles, flexible hours, freelance or contract\u00a0positions, salaries, career progression and role\u00a0titles create more points for negotiation between\u00a0employer and employee.
