Online Event

16 May 2025
Description:
This session of *On the Verandah* addresses the professional challenges surrounding the concept of “local experience” in Australian architecture. Lynette Apostolou, COO of AJC, and Matthew Graham of ACRWORLD join hosts Debjani Sarkar and Lameesa Yousuf for a candid discussion on how overseas-trained practitioners navigate entry into the Australian industry.
The conversation interrogates assumptions that limit recognition of international experience, particularly impacting migrant women of colour. In examining Australia’s diverse architectural identity, the session explores strategies for translating skills across contexts and urges practices to broaden their understanding of relevant experience.
Through this dialogue, the panel advocates for a more inclusive professional landscape that values the global contributions shaping local practice.
