The role of Studio Principal – Landscape, requires a close working relationship with the Board of Directors and the active participation and contribution as a thought  leader to produce  innovative  and highly  advanced  designs for  across the Landscape portfolio, including but not limited to Education, Justice,  Health, Civic, Church, Sports, Multi Unit Residential, Adaptive Re-Use,  Commercial and Retail typologies. This role gives  responsibility for quality of design, documentation and  co-ordination  of projects  including management of team resources, program / budgets as well as client relationships. The successful candidate will work within a supportive leadership team and have the mentorship and guidance of Directors but also the opportunity to shape the future of the landscape team and its future. 

Responsibilities Include:

•Regular reporting to the Board of Directors on innovation  and  design including  future trends both local and international, as well as reporting on studio work flows, program / budget and new business opportunities;

•Assisting with bid submissions, the winning of new projects and  maintaining  existing client relationships to achieve repeat business outcomes; 

•Position and promote the practice as an industry sector leader;

•Undertake speaking engagements at conferences and industry events, in conjunction with the publication of articles and research;

•Lead design reviews, initiate research on innovation and achieve excellence in  design  outcomes, reporting to the Design Director; 

•Managing clients, consultants and stakeholders through design, documentation and construction; 

•Managing the resources and skills of Landscape Architects and support staff within your studio and leveraging the services of other practice disciplines (Architecture, Heritage, Interiors and Advisory); 

•Effectively plan, programme, budget, and coordinate projects;

•Show initiative in identifying problems and leading solutions throughout the design and construction process; 

•Ensure the quality control of final architectural product, report on outcomes and ensure  compliance to office procedures and report to relevant Directors.

Skills and Experience 

  • A degree in Landscape Architecture and Registration as a Landscape Architect; 
  • Industry recognition as being a thought leader and innovative designer;
  • Proven experience in the  design and  delivery  of projects  (public  or private  sectors)  across a range of typologies; 
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Australia in Landscape Architectural practice;
  • Extensive   knowledge    of    project   delivery    from    Schematic   Design    to    Contract   Administration;
  • Strong technical knowledge and attention to detail; 
  • An understanding of documentation delivery within Vectorworks (preferable); 
  • Knowledge of BCA, Australian Standards, and NSW Planning framework; 
  • Advanced Presentation skills;
  • Strong Organisation skills;
  • Experience in business development and tender submissions; 
  • Experience in managing and mentoring a team demonstrating advanced people skills
