Senior Design Manager
About this role
An award-winning creative agency in Los Angeles who builds modern environments by blending experience, strategy and design is looking for a Senior Design Manager to join their team. The Design Manager will join as contract-to-permanent on an exciting new hotel + hospitality project. You will bring together designers, external architects, structural and services engineers and other specialists, to produce a coordinate design output. You will bridge the design and delivery of a project, working with designers from pre-construction to practical completion. The role entails working with clients in a dynamic environment on detailed designs, concepts, building and management briefs, articulating their exacting requirements into project execution and delivery. You will be adept at managing diverse teams and utilizing resources to achieve the desired outcome.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide overall technical support and design supervision for Design-Build Projects
- Possibly working across several US regions
- Ensure the quality of the design output; submitted as per the schedule, is cost efficient, low-risk, high quality, and fulfills the requirements of the contract
- Plan and coordinate design process all stakeholders
- Work with our brand and associated specialists from a technical perspective, to drive cost efficiency in the design and provide technical engineering guidance and input throughout
- Develop and maintain detailed knowledge and understanding of all contractual obligations for the project, ensuring the design meets the requirements of the contract
- Produce design progress reports for all design controls and maintain organized and thorough documentation through a processes
- Travel to project site office to work with the project team and external partners
- Manage designers located in the US to complete key activities and meet deadlines
- Partner with external specialists alongside the design team
- Manage design process using commercial, contractual, program awareness, technical expertise
- Manage costs, construction programs, sub-contractors, quality control
- Participate in project meetings in the US. Support, understand and advise the client on requirements, steps and roles played in the development of the building design
- Maintain up to date knowledge of changing legislation and codes of practice to ensure compliance and ensure the design process recognizes and meets this current US legislation, standards and codes of practice
- Eliminate health and safety risks in the design and financial risks during construction
Skills & Qualifications:
- A highly experienced Design and Build Manager who works with premium brands across a number of sectors including fashion, retail, corporate, hospitality and who has provided design and project management for quality hotel brands
- Ability to assist teams in all phases of hospitality interior architectural projects, including project set-up, design and construction administration
- Relevant sector experience and understanding of the creative and brand/experiential design such as retail experience essential for retail projects

- A highly motivated, professional individual with great organizational skills
- Ability to oversee innovative design strategies on multiple projects working with architectural and interior design teams
- Oversee creative teams including 2d, 3d and digital media in the development of unique brand concepts
- Ability to assist teams in all phases of hospitality interior architectural projects. This includes project set-up, design and construction administration
- Detailed knowledge of AIA regulations
- A thorough understanding of technical, regulatory and commercial issues as well as pure design considerations
- Motivator, planner, efficient, great people and communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of all aspects of a construction project
- Able to keep cool under pressure and manage large teams with different goals
- California Registered Architect or California Certified Interior Designer (CID) or
- 7-10 years of related experience including recent comprehensive experience in an architecture or design firm that focuses on interiors
- Experience with the architectural design of technical spaces, including pre and post-production facilities
- Well-versed in a wide range of design software, including drafting in AutoCAD and Revit, graphic design (Adobe Creative Cloud), and 3D modelling using SketchUp and Rhino programs
This role is contract-to-permanent, 3-5 days a week (can be flexible)This person will report to the Managing Director
