Landscape Architect

A local council in Sydney’s South West are seeking an experienced landscape architect

About this role

This local council is looking for a Landscape Architect to join its team on an immediate start 3 month contract. You will be a good all-rounder who is capable of working independently and collaboratively through all stages from design through to construction. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a range of high profile projects and contribute to the revitalising initiative of the local area. 

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare concept designs for a range of open space and public domain projects
  • Develop and prepare documentation, specifications, and cost estimates suitable to issue for tender and construction 
  • Provide input into the development of policies, strategies and master plans for parks, streetscapes, activity centres and other public spaces.
  • Report to and liaise with key contacts including civil engineers, design officers and technical staff
  • Ensure that projects comply with statutory requirements, have necessary approvals, and conform to required
    standards and policies
  • Prepare Council reports on open space and urban design matters
  • Provide design input to other departments in order to achieve optimal public realm outcomes
  • Review landscape drawings, specifications and cost estimates prepared by consultants for land developers
    and other Council departments
  • Ensure delivery of projects on time and within budget 

Skills and experience

  • Completed tertiary qualifications in Landscape Architecture
  • Working at a level equivalent to 5+ years experience  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practice design and project management practise
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary planning and design projects 
  • Understanding of Australian building standards and codes
  • Ability to supervise multiple projects, manage consultants, and manage competing priorities
  • Good site analysis and assessment skills 
  • Excellent presentation, documentation and detailing ability
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft desktop software, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Expert AutoCAD skills gained through professional practice experience 
  • Excellent visual, verbal and written communication skills
