Australian Placemaking Summit 2026
The Australian Placemaking Summit brings together urban designers, architects, planners, and community advocates to share ideas and strategies for creating better, more liveable places across Australia.

The Australian Placemaking Summit is the country’s leading gathering for professionals working at the intersection of design, planning, and community engagement. Over two days at the Sydney Masonic Centre, the summit convenes architects, urban designers, landscape architects, planners, developers, and local government representatives to explore what it means to create places that genuinely serve and sustain communities.
Placemaking has become one of the most important conversations in the built environment sector — moving the profession beyond object-level design thinking towards a more holistic understanding of how the spaces between and around buildings shape everyday life. The summit’s programme reflects this breadth, with keynotes and workshops touching on public space activation, inclusive design, First Nations perspectives on country and place, climate-responsive urbanism, and the role of community in shaping development outcomes.
For architects and interior designers who engage with the public realm, mixed-use development, or civic and community projects, the summit offers both professional development and the kind of lateral thinking that broader design practice benefits from.
