Christchurch Conversations: Peri-urban Potential

Free Te Pūtahi panel at Tūranga, Christchurch, on how the land between city and countryside could provide both food and housing

Location: TSB Space, Level 1, Tūranga, Ōtautahi Christchurch

Date: 17 November 2026, from 6pm

Te Pūtahi Centre for Architecture and City-Making continues its Christchurch Conversations 2026 series on Tuesday 17 November 2026 with Peri-urban Potential, held in the TSB Space on Level 1 of Tūranga, the central library in Ōtautahi Christchurch. The session runs from 6pm to 7.30pm and is free and open to the public, though registration is required. It is also livestreamed on Te Pūtahi’s YouTube channel.

The panel looks at the transitional land between city and countryside and how it might support food production and housing at the same time while protecting natural systems and liveability. Topics include land use, density, the roles of local government and communities, and the barriers to progress. Speakers are Shannon Davis, Head of the School of Landscape Architecture at Lincoln University, George Sariak, Senior Policy Planner at Christchurch City Council, and Angela Clifford of EatNZ. Lianne Dalziel chairs.

Growth on Christchurch’s edges is a live question for the city’s architects, landscape architects and urban designers, and this panel puts a planner, an academic and a food advocate in the same room. The venue is step-free, with accessible entrances from Gloucester Street and Cathedral Square.
