The Architect's Newspaper's two-day building envelope conference in Los Angeles, co-chaired by SOM, with a symposium, materials expo and workshops offering up to 12 AIA HSW credits

Date: 5 November 2026 to 6 November 2026
Facades+ is The Architect’s Newspaper’s travelling conference series on building envelope design, engineering and construction. The Los Angeles 2026 edition runs on 5 and 6 November, with the symposium hosted at Central LA Area High School #9 for the Visual and Performing Arts in downtown Los Angeles. The conference is co-chaired by Olin McKenzie and Blake Altshuler of SOM and draws architects, engineers, contractors and facade consultants.
Day one is a full-day symposium of presentations and panels with a Methods and Materials Expo, followed by an awards and cocktail party. Themes include embodied carbon and envelope optimisation, design-assist collaboration, concrete and mass timber, with speakers including Rita Kampalath of the County of Los Angeles and Lucas Epp of StructureCraft. Day two offers classroom-style workshops. Attendees can earn up to 12 AIA HSW CEUs, and qualified architects and engineers can apply for a free VIP symposium pass.
For Los Angeles architects, Facades+ is the one local conference devoted entirely to the building envelope, with the engineers and fabricators who build them in the same room. The free VIP pass and HSW credits make it an easy day for practice teams to justify.
