Festival of Design Aotearoa 2026
A ten-day national design festival across Whanganui and Palmerston North exploring how design shapes life in New Zealand

Date: 16 October 2026 to 25 October 2026
The Festival of Design Aotearoa 2026 runs from 16 to 25 October 2026, with Whanganui as its anchor city and a second programme in Palmerston North. The ten-day festival celebrates how design shapes life in New Zealand and beyond, from the streets we walk to the systems we rely on and the stories we tell.
Events take place across galleries, theatres and public spaces in both cities, bringing together designers, technologists, businesses and communities. The programme includes a Designers Speak session on 17 October with Seachange, Motion Sickness and The Wonder Group, presented by the Designers Institute of New Zealand.
The festival is supported by the New Zealand Government’s Events Boost Fund, and it is open to practising designers and the design curious alike. The full events programme is available on the festival website.
