RIBA + VitrA: What’s Next for Experimentation in Architecture?

A RIBA and VitrA panel discussion at the People's History Museum, Manchester, on the future of experimentation in architecture, chaired by Samantha Hardingham

Location: People’s History Museum, Manchester

Date: 10 November 2026, from 6.15pm

RIBA and VitrA Bathrooms present What’s Next for Experimentation in Architecture? at the People’s History Museum, Left Bank, Manchester on 10 November 2026. Doors open at 6.15pm and the programme starts at 6.30pm, finishing at 9pm. The evening is part of RIBA’s 2026 public talks programme, whose theme is Excellence in Design.

The panel brings together JJ Cliff, director of Studio Weave, artist Giles Miller, Jonathan Mizzi, founding director of Mizzi Studio, Yan Wing Le, director of Common Practice, and Charlie Butterwick, director of Architecture Unknown. It is chaired by Samantha Hardingham, architectural writer, curator and lecturer. Tickets are £15 general, £9 for RIBA members and concessions, with BSL interpretation and step free access provided, and a bar on site.

A RIBA public talk of this scale in Manchester is worth noting for architects across the North West. The question it poses, how practices make room for experimentation while running a business, is one most small studios are asking, and the panel is drawn from practices that have done it.
