Serpentine Pavilion 2025
Temporary wooden pavilion exploring light, movement and community within Kensington Gardens’ landscape.
Location:
Serpentine South, Kensington Gardens, London W2 3XA, United Kingdom.
Date:
6 June 2025 – 26 October 2025
A Capsule in Time by Marina Tabassum explores temporality through architecture articulated in timber and translucent façades that diffuse daylight across its curving volumes.
The pavilion extends along a north–south axis aligned with Serpentine South’s historic bell tower to frame a central courtyard anchored by a ginkgo tree that will be replanted after dismantling.
Composed of four wooden capsule‑like forms, one of which is kinetic, the structure offers a shifting interior that promotes social interaction and public convening in a spiritual, sensory environment.
The design draws on South Asian Shamiyana tent traditions while responding to London’s context through scale, light modulation and a dialogue between permanence and ephemerality.
