IR35 reforms delayed in UK for a year due to coronavirus

Great news for the recruitment industry! Yesterday evening (17th March) it was announced that the IR35 (off-payroll working) reforms that would have applied for people contracting their services to large or medium-sized organisations outside the public sector will be pushed back by 12 months, in light of the covid-19 outbreak.  

The announcement made by Stephen Barclay MP, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said it had been brought in to help businesses and individuals in the current climate. He confirmed that the decision was “a deferral, not a cancellation, and the government remains committed to reintroducing this policy”. The rules will now come into force from 6 April 2021.
