The Architecture Symposium, Brisbane 2027

Design Speaks' one-day architecture symposium at the State Library of Queensland, Brisbane, on the 2027 theme Bones, Not Bling, for architects, graduates and students

Location: State Library of Queensland, Stanley Place, South Bank, Brisbane

Date: 23 July 2027

Design Speaks, the events programme of Architecture Media, returns to the State Library of Queensland at South Bank on Friday 23 July 2027 for The Architecture Symposium, Brisbane. The one-day symposium is pitched at architects, graduates and students, and the Brisbane edition is one of several the series runs in Australian cities each year.

The 2027 theme is Bones, Not Bling. It takes its cue from Kerstin Thompson’s position that the value of architecture lies in the strength of its underlying strategy rather than its decoration, and asks what happens if the future of design is about enough rather than more. Speakers are yet to be announced. Tickets are not yet on sale and a mailing list on the event page gives notice of release.

For Brisbane architects the symposium is one of the few national talks programmes that comes to Queensland each year, and the 2027 theme of restraint and sufficiency speaks directly to practices working within tight budgets and material limits on everyday projects.
