AIA DC Design Excellence Awards 2026

The AIA DC Design Excellence Awards are the Washington DC chapter’s primary annual recognition programme, celebrating work across the full range of architectural practice active within the District. The 2026 awards, with the ceremony in September, recognise projects demonstrating technical innovation, design quality and meaningful contribution to the public realm of one of the world’s most architecturally significant capital cities.

Categories span residential, commercial, institutional and civic building types, with particular emphasis on the District’s unique context, including the relationship between new work and Washington’s historic fabric, the particular demands of federal and diplomatic clients and the city’s public realm obligations as a national capital. Shortlisted projects are published by AIA DC ahead of the September ceremony, providing significant editorial exposure for recognised practices.
