Renowned conceptual artist Carrie Mae Weems will present a public lecture exploring her groundbreaking work that examines history, identity, and power. Known for her powerful photographic series like Kitchen Table Series and From Here I Saw What Happened and I Cried, Weems transforms archival imagery and personal narrative into profound social commentary.
The event features a conversation with Mabel O. Wilson, Columbia University professor and architectural scholar, followed by an audience Q&A. Wilson, co-curator of MoMA’s Reconstructions: Architecture and Blackness in America, will moderate the discussion.
Weems, a MacArthur Fellow and recipient of the National Medal of Arts, has exhibited internationally and is represented in major museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Tate Modern.
Hosted by The Architectural League and The Cooper Union’s Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, this lecture is endowed by Wendy Evans Joseph and supported by New York City and State cultural funds.
