Architecture against Architecture: Reiner de Graaf
OMA partner Reinier de Graaf brings his book Architecture Against Architecture to Temple Bar, challenging foundational assumptions of the profession, from hierarchies of power to the ethics of what architects choose to build.
Reinier de Graaf, partner at OMA, brings his book Architecture Against Architecture to Temple Bar for a seminar that cuts against the grain of conventional architectural discourse. Where most talks celebrate what architects build, this one asks harder questions about how the profession operates, who it serves, and what it should refuse.
The talk covers a range of provocations: how to address the hierarchies that concentrate prestige in a small number of practices, what projects architects should decline on moral grounds, the potential of unionisation and collective ownership models within the discipline, and how artificial intelligence is reshaping the economics and culture of practice. De Graaf draws on three decades of work at one of the most influential architecture offices in the world.
Speaker: Reinier de Graaf is a partner at OMA (the Office for Metropolitan Architecture) and the author of Architecture Against Architecture, a provocation aimed squarely at the structures and assumptions that define how the profession operates.
Doors open at 6:05pm with the talk beginning at 6:30pm and running for approximately two hours. Tickets are priced from £5 up to £20, with refunds available up to five days before the event. Ticket sales close on the morning of 18 May.
