Open House Chicago 2026
The Chicago Architecture Center’s free weekend festival opening more than 200 buildings across Chicago’s neighbourhoods to the public
Location: Various locations, Chicago
Date: 17 October 2026 to 18 October 2026
Open House Chicago 2026 takes place over the weekend of 17 and 18 October 2026. Organised by the Chicago Architecture Center, it is one of the largest architecture and urban festivals in the world, offering free behind-the-scenes access to sites of architectural, historical and cultural significance.
This year’s festival includes more than 200 locations across around 30 neighbourhoods, with 20 sites taking part for the first time. Entry to the buildings is free, and the full list of sites is published on the Chicago Architecture Center website.
Open house festivals give architects a rare chance to see inside buildings that are usually closed to the public, and Chicago’s programme covers everything from landmark towers to places of worship and neighbourhood institutions. It is a good weekend to see the city’s architectural history and its current building stock side by side.
